PROBLEM:
Indoor air quality in small dwellings is full of toxins and thus lowers the overall quality of living experience.
OPPORTUNITY:
Design a solution that improves air quality without creating a greater carbon footprint in to process.
SOLUTION:
Phytoremediation, the process by which plants remove harmful contaminants from their host environment. Pollutants in the air are absorbed through microscopic openings in leaves called stoma. Root microbes biodegrade the pollutants into structures that can be used as a source of food for both the microbes and the plant.
BENEFITS:
1. eliminates contaminants
Natural processes in the plant allow it to break down and ingest contaminants as a food source. The by-products are oxygen, sugar, and proteins.
2. sustainable
Phytoremediation’s waste is life-giving flora, or plant matter that is broken down through natural processes.
3. inexpensive
Compared to other air purification products is in expensive. It’s filtration system, soil, is self-cleaning.
